Lawrence H. Meuers; AttorneyLawrence (Larry) H. Meuers received his Bachelor of Arts Degree, magna cum laude, in 1983 from the University of St. Thomas and his law degree in 1987 from the William Mitchell College of Law in Minnesota.

He is admitted to practice law in the state and federal courts of Florida, California and Minnesota, and has appeared in federal trial, bankruptcy and appellate courts throughout the United States. Among his officially reported cases are Hull Co. v. Hauser Foods, 721 F. Supp. 224 (D. Minn. 1989), aff=d, 924 F.2d 777, 781-82 (8th Cir. 1991); In re H.R. Patricia Maddox Harper, 150 B.R. 416 (Bankr. E.D. Tenn. 1993); In re H.R. Hindle and Co., Inc., 149 B.R. 775 (Bankr. E.D. Penn. 1993); Garguilo v. G.M. Sales, Inc., 131 F.3d 995 (11th Cir. 1997); and Greg Orchards & Produce, Inc. v. Roncone, 180 F. 3d 888 (7th Cir. 1999).

Larry has achieved a legal ability rating of "A" (very high to preeminent) and a general ethical standards rating of "V", the highest possible ratings by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory. Larry is a member of the American Bar Association, The Federal Bar Association and The Florida Bar Association where he is active in the law practice management section.

Larry's family has owned and operated produce companies in Minnesota for four generations. He has worked in many facets of their potato and onion packaging operation, starting with sweeping floors and working on the packing line at 10 years of age, driving 18-wheel tractor-trailers by age 16, and later supervising packing house operations. For five years after college and while attending law school, Larry managed all aspects of their diversified fruit and vegetable shipping and marketing organization. Larry sold in excess of $20,000,000 worth of produce annually, managed procurement, quality control, and sales.

Larry founded Meuers Law Firm, P.L. as a sole practitioner in 1989. The Firm has expanded to 5 attorneys with offices in Florida, California and Maryland. Larry handles the firm's complex trust enforcement cases under the federal Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act (PACA) in federal bankruptcy and district courts and regulatory matters governed by PACA and the California Food and Agricultural Code. Larry's expertise in handling PACA cases is unparalleled. He was lead counsel for PACA trust creditors in many of the largest insolvencies in produce industry history, including AmeriServe Food Distribution, Inc. and The Grand Union Co.

His experience and insight in the produce industry, coupled with his strong analytical and problem solving skills honed over 12 years of practicing law, uniquely qualifies Larry to effectively serve clients in produce-related matters. Larry also brings his clients almost 20 years of his relationships and contacts within the industry. Whether a client is seeking legal counsel in connection with federal litigation, bankruptcy, an administrative proceeding before the USDA, or assistance with the preparation of agreements or contracts, Larry has the experience to offer effective legal counsel.

Larry is a frequent lecturer and author on legal issues affecting the produce industry. He has been a speaker at events sponsored by the American Bar Association, the United Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Association, the Produce Marketing Association, the Florida Fruit and Vegetable Association and the Western Growers Association. Articles written by Larry have appeared in the Western Grower and Shipper, the Harvester, the News Flash and Produce and The Law.

After being a life-long Minnesota resident, Larry moved to Naples, Florida in 1992. Larry enjoys spending time with his children and pursuing the outdoor activities Naples offers such as the beach, golfing, spring training baseball and his childrens' activities.  Larry maintains his Minnesota roots as an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.
